Sharing practical mental health tips from our staff

As part of our Mental Health Month celebrations, we’re sharing practical mental health tips from our staff.

It’s true: 2020 has been a year of challenges. From bushfires, to floods, to our changing world and COVID-19, many of us may be feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

That’s why we’ve asked our staff to share their top mental health tips for coping.

As a mental health organisation, we’re well-versed in coping mechanisms for when we experience mental ill-health.

From both a lived experience and clinical standpoint, our staff are experts in the field: and we knew their advice could significantly benefit people in the community. Because even if we help just one person breathe easier, we’ve succeeded.

So, without further ado, here are the top mental health tips and advice from our staff. We hope they help you.

  • Don’t keep it to yourself; let it out by talking to a friend
  • Practice mindfulness, lower your stress levels, and choose to frame your mindset in a more positive way
  • Call someone you care about
  • Seek help
  • Take the time to rest
  • Think positively, and remember things will change.
  • Remain patient and try not to go into an emotional spiral
  • Meditate, listen to music and walk
  • Breathe deeply
  • Physical exercise

Always remember: you are not alone.

If you are struggling with your mental health right now, seek help. You are not alone. It’s okay to not be okay. And this too shall pass.
