Welcome to the Forensicare Graduate Nurse Program FAQ page.  The application process can sometimes be confusing  so we are here to support you through the process.

I do not have a mental health preceptor as my referee, can I still apply?

It is a requirement to submit a mental health referee.  Should your mental health preceptor not be available, please discuss any alternatives with our Graduate Nurse Coordinator by contacting 03 9495 9203 or graduatenurseprogram@forensicare.vic.gov.au

My mental health preceptor did not provide any comments on my formative or summative assessments.  But I passed my clinical placement, will I be penalised?

No, you won’t be penalized. However, you can  submit both the formative and summative assessments along with the marking rubric or additional documentations with your application. 

How many pages should my resume be?

Ideally, your resume should be two pages long.

My transcript is not complete as my third-year results are not released yet, it that ok?

Forensicare understands that your third-year results are not yet released at the time of your application.  We accept the latest certified copy of your academic transcript.

If I cannot gather all required documents for the application in time for the closing date, what can I do?

All documents must be uploaded and submitted at the time of your application. The closing date is the latest date we can receive any supporting documents to your application.

Do I need to provide certified copies of the documents?

Yes.  All supporting documents must be certified.

If I completed my mental health clinical placement in multiple locations, do I include both appraisals?

Yes.  Please submit both mental health clinical placement appraisals from all locations.

How will I know if I am successful for an interview?

You will receive a phone call from one of our Clinical Nurse Educators regarding your interview time and date. You will also receive an email to confirm your interview details.

My acute placement appraisal is better than my mental health placement appraisal, can I provide both?

You have the option to submit both.  However, we will prioritise review of the mental health placement appraisal. 

I live interstate, can I apply?

Yes. If you are eligible for Computer Match you can apply. For further information, please visit PMCV.

Do you accept international applicants?

Forensicare recruits through Computer Match and currently we do not accept any international applicants or those not eligible for Computer Match. Please see guidelines for Computer Match at PMCV.

I was unavailable for the information sessions; can I book in a tour before I submit my application?

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a tour might not be available.  This will be assessed on a case by case basis.  Please contact us if you would like a tour of Thomas Embling Hospital.

Do you offer more than one intake?

Our Graduate Nurse Program has one intake each year, with successful applicants  commencing in January.

Is there opportunity for ongoing employment post the program?

Yes, on completion of the Graduate and Post-graduate program suitable candidates will be offered ongoing employment.

What if I have not received my nursing registration in time to start the program?

Please let us know if you foresee any difficulties or barriers for you to gain your nursing registration from AHPRA in time.  You could also contact AHPRA for more information on their timeline.
